No outro dia estava eu a observar atentamente a estante da Fnac dedicada aos “tempos livres”, lamentando-me por nunca se conseguir encontrar livros decentes sobre crafts nesta cidade, quando o vislumbre de uma lombada me fez engolir o meu descontentamento… Lotta Prints? Na Fnac? Muito mais caro que na Amazon mas o que é que isso interessa? Está aqui, posso folheá-lo e vou levá-lo!

The other day I was perusing the hobbies bookshelf at Fnac, moaning about how it’s impossible to find decent craft books in this city, when a glance at a spine made me swallow up my dissatisfaction… Lotta Prints? At Fnac? Much more expensive that at Amazon but who cares? It’s right here, I’m able to skim through it and I’m taking it!





Já aqui publiquei um video da Lotta Jansdotter, uma sueca que se mudou para São Francisco aos 20 anos e que é um fenómeno no mundo do design crafty (mais sobre a Lotta aqui). Este livro é excelente e fez-me recuar à “génese” do meu interesse pelos crafts: este livro aqui em baixo que marcou a minha infância.

I’ve already posted a video that features Lotta Jansdotter, a Swedish young woman who moved to San Francisco at age 20 and who is a crafty design phenomenon (more about Lotta here). This is an excellent book that made me go back to the “genesis”of my interest on crafts: this book below that I used to love when I was a little girl.

Muitos anos antes de me ter decidido sentar a uma máquina de costura, o meu interesse era o papel: papel de lustro, papel de seda, papel crepe, cartolina… Depois vieram as tintas, os carimbos, as horas passadas a ver os livros sobre interiores da minha mãe, as revistas de decoração, as caixas, molduras e pequenos móveis que pintei. Em seguida, os tecidos. E agora este livro, que me abre um mundo de possibilidades para conjugar tintas e tecidos, estampagem e costura.

Many years before I decided to try my mum’s sewing machine, I was interested in paper: colourful lustre paper and others whose name in English I don’t know… Then came paint, stamps, the hours spent skimming through my mum’s interior books, decor magazines, and the boxes, frames and little pieces of furniture I painted. Afterwards, fabrics. And now this book that opens up a world of possibilities to conjugate paint and fabrics, printing and sewing.






Ah, e continuo a adorar embrulhar presentes.

Cá em casa sou conhecida por gostar de “deitar coisas fora”. Sou vista como “perigosa”. Não é bem assim: eu não gosto é de ter em casa coisas que não se usam. Ocupam espaço, escondem o resto e poderiam ser úteis a outra pessoa qualquer. Não deito fora, dou. Assim como gosto que me dêem aquilo de que já não se servem. Confesso que me faz muita confusão ver armários atafulhados de objectos sem uso há 30 anos…

At home I’m know as the one who likes to “throw things away”. I’m seen as “dangerous”. This is not exactly true: I just dislike having things at home that are not used. They take up room, hide the rest and could be useful to someone else. I don’t throw ayay, I give away. Just as I’m pleased when people give me things they don’t use anymore. I confess I’m perplexed when I see cupboards full of objects that have been unused for 30 years…


No outro dia estava a mexer nos meus charm packs (aqueles quadrados de tecido de que já aqui falei) e separei aqueles que nunca irei usar. Alguém os quer? Tecido preferido / Favourite fabric

O desafio é da Kim e consiste em escolher o nosso tecido contemporâneo preferido. O meu é este Mirabelle da colecção Tana Lawn do Liberty of London. O desenho é de 1962 mas foi repescado em 2006; será que se qualifica como reproduction fabric? Estou a assumir que é contemporâneo e não vintage, mas se calhar estou errada…

Kim’s meme is to write on your blog about your favorite contemporary fabric ever. Mine is this Mirabelle print from Liberty of London‘s Tana Lawn collection. The design is from 1962 but it was introduced on Classic Tana for Autumn/Winter 2006; does this qualify as reproduction fabric? I’m assuming it’s contemporary, not vintage, but I could be wrong…

No-knead bread + shop update

As experiências de fazer pão em casa continuam… Resolvi experimentar esta receita depois de ler sobre uma fantástica côdea aqui e aqui. Este método revolucionário baseia-se numa fermentação leeenta (20 horas no total) e conta com o fiel Le Creuset (ou outra panela no género) para alcançar uma côdea crocante e que não envergonharia nenhum padeiro. Pena foi (1) ter-me esquecido de pôr sal — e nós portugueses gostamos de pão salgado, não é? — e (2) o meu Le Creuset ser demasiado grande — o pão ficou achatado. De resto, estou satisfeita e recomendo!
The making-bread-at-home experiences go on… I decided to try this recipe after reading about a fantastic crust here and here. This revolutionary method is based on a slooow fermentation (20 hours total) and relies on the faithful Le Creuset (or a similar pan) to achieve a crusty crust (that’s right!) that would make any baker feel proud. Unfortunately (1) I forgot to add salt — and we Portuguese love salty bread, right? — and (2) my Le Creuset is too big — the bread got flat. Otherwise, I’m pleased and I recommend it!

Este livro de receitas foi oferta da Margarina Chefe (!) algures entre as décadas de 50/60. Encontrei-o em casa da avó, claro.

This cookbook was offered by a Portuguese brand of margerine (!) sometime during the 50’s/60’s. I found it at grandmother’s, of course.

Pois é, lá decidi aumentar o molde desta carteira para 150% e fazer uma mala para a minha mãe, que não gosta de sacos grandes. Acrescentei uma alça, de resto é em tudo igual à anterior. Continuo a adorar a forma!

Well, I did enlarge this clutch‘s pattern to 150% to make a bag for my mum, who doesn’t like big bags. I added a strap, other wise it’s pretty mutch the same pattern. I really love this shape!
