Desde que me iniciei no quilting que penso em quilts dia e noite. Já fiz pesquisas intermináveis no flickr e até já sonhei com patchwork! Partilho aqui imagens de alguns dos meus quilts preferidos, para que não sirvam de inspiração apenas a mim. Todos estes quilts, pequenos ou grandes, são para mim um exemplo do que quero tentar fazer um dia. E já reparei que adoro quilts cheios de branco!

Since I’ve entered the quilting world I think about quilts day and night. I’ve done a lot of ‘research’ over at flickr and I’ve even dreamt of patchwork! I’m sharing some pictures of my favourite quilts over here so they can inspire you as well. All of these quilts, large or small, are for me an exaple of what I want to make someday. And I’ve noticed I love quilts that have a lot of white!

Flea market fancy

Um dos meus programas preferidos de sábado é dar um salto à feira da ladra. Apesar da profusão de tralha à venda — eu própria, quando era mais nova, contribui umas vezes para isso — e dos preços exorbitantes, às vezes encontram-se umas coisas engraçadas.

One of my favourite things on Saturdays is to hit the Lisbon flea market. Although there’s too much junk for sale (when I was younger I also sold my junk there) and prices are too high, sometimes you are able to score some nice things.


Folheei umas revistas de lavores dos anos 40 com o delicioso título de Mãos de Fada e comprei alguns botões para repôr os muitos que tenho usado ultimamente. E depois fomos almoçar aqui.

I found some craft magazines from the 1940’s with this delicious title: ‘Fairy Hands’; I also bought some buttons to replace the ones I’ve been using lately. And then we had lunch here.

Domingo em casa / Sunday at home

Neste domingo cinzento e pastelão, acabei uma encomenda pendente há um mês: um kidlet para os sacos de plástico com destino a uma cozinha no Luxemburgo. Sabe-me bem passar um dia a coser em casa.

On this grey, lazy Sunday I finally finished a commission I was asked over a month ago: a kidlet for storing plastic bags in a kitchen in Luxembourg. It feels so good to spend a day sewing at home .

Aulas de quilting / Quilting lessons

Há duas semanas comecei com aulas de quilting e não poderia ter escolhido melhor professora. Na primeira sessão aprendi a cortar e a construir os blocos; na segunda, a coser tudo e a fazer a sandwich do top, batting e backing.

Two weeks ago I started my quilting lessons. I could’t have chosen a better teacher. At the first session I learned how to cut and construct blocks; at the second one I was taught how to piece everything and how to make the top, batting and backing sandwich.


O trabalho de casa é quiltar tudo. Escolhi coser linhas a direito, pararelas aos quadrados… o problema é que não tenho walking foot (pelos vistos não há nenhum que se adapte à minha máquina de principiante). Vamos ver como corre…

My homework is to quilt it. I chose to sew straight lines that run parallel to the squares… the only problem is that I don’t own a walking foot (apparently there’s no walking foot that will fit my beginner’s sewing machine). Let’s see how it goes…

Finally! My Etsy shop is now open and I’m so thrilled! Now it’s even easier to buy ‘Saídos da Concha’ handmade products — you just have to click on them. There are many bibs, tissue holders and aprons for sale — next week I’m planning on adding some purse organisers and some bags to the shop. Stay tuned!

Comprar feito à mão – II / Buying handmade – II

Já andava a namorar os bolos da Sílvia há uns tempos. Quando os vi pela primeira vez pensei imediatamente: a quem posso oferecer isto? Não tenho irmãs, filhas, primas, sobrinhas ou amigas em idade de brincar com bonecas, por isso pus a ideia de parte. Mas, de vez em quando, ia espreitar a loja… até que a semana passada comprei um bolo para mim. Qual é o mal de comprar um objecto pelo puro prazer de olhar para ele?

Sílvia‘s cakes have been on my mind for some time. When I first saw them, I immediatly thought: whom can I give this to? I have no sisters, daughters, cousins, nieces or friends who still play with dolls so it was difficult for me to find a reason to buy them. But once and again I paid a little visit to her shop… and last week I bought myself a cake. What’s wrong with buying something only for the pleasure of looking at it?

E hoje recebi um bolo muito apetitoso, numa embalagem muito gira e cor-de-rosa, que eu abri cheia de vontade de voltar a ser criança e brincar com bonecas e serviços de chá e tachos e panelas (estes últimos eram os meus brinquedos preferidos… quem diria que um dia mais tarde iria detestar cozinhar?). O bolo não é o máximo?

And today I received a yummy cake inside a very cute and very pink box, that I opened wishing I could become a child again and play with dolls, tea sets, pots and pans (these last items were my favourite toys… who would have thought later on I would hate cooking?). Isn’t the cake wonderful?

Já está arrumado na prateleira dos botões, mesmo por cima da máquina de costura, onde o poderei ver todos os dias.

Podem achar que sou doida, mas acho que já é tempo de começar a pensar no Natal. Acabou de sair The Christmas Book, um livro cheio de ideias bestiais e ecológicas para preparar mais uma época natalícia. As imagens falam por si!
