Hoje o meu blog faz três anos. Parabéns, blog! Vou aproveitar a ocasião para escrever o post que ando a preparar na minha cabeça há umas semanas. Sempre que penso neste blog, bem como no projecto Saídos da Concha, penso no meu querido marido Tiago. Sem ele nada seria igual. Quem teria paciência infinita para passar horas a tirar fotografias às coisas que faço? Quem me ouviria com tanto interesse discorrer sobre as minhas aspirações e sonhos? Quem me acompanharia nas minhas demandas por tecidos sempre que fazemos uma viagem? Quem me daria tantas opiniões sobre combinações de cores e padrões? Se hoje em dia me posso dedicar a 100% a este projecto, é porque tenho um marido que nunca duvida de mim. Obrigada, meu amor!
Today my blog turns 3. Happy birthday, blog! I’m going to take this opportunity to write the post I’ve been preparing in my head over the last weeks. You see, every time I think about this blog and my Saídos da Concha project, I think about my dear husband Tiago. Without him nothing would be the same. Who would be so patient as to spend hours photographing the things I make? Who would listen to me with so much interest when I talk about my aspirations and dreams? Who would accompany me in my quest for fabrics whenever we are on a trip? Who would give me so many opinions concerning colour and pattern combinations?If I’m able to dedicate myself 100% to this project, it’s because I have a husband who never doubts me. Thank you, my love!

Entusiasmei-me com esta história da roupa que as crianças usavam há umas décadas e mergulhei nas gavetas de fotografias de casa da minha avó. E porque esta semana foi dedicada à minha mãe, vamos ver como eram as suas toilettes em pequena…

I got carried away with this children clothing thing and asked my grandmother for permission to go through her drawers full of old photos. And since this week has been dedicated to my mother, let’s see what her outfits looked like when she was a little girl, shall we?

Quilt Losangos :: Diamonds Quilt (made by Mum)

A semana dedicada aos quilts feitos pela minha mãe termina hoje com um quilt de losangos, inspirado num modelo que aparece neste livro do Kaffe Fassett. Os tecidos, muitos deles japoneses, vieram da Purl.

And so ends the week dedicated to the quilts my mother has made in the last few months. Today’s is a diamond quilt, inspired in this book by Kaffe Fassett. The fabrics, most of them Japanese, were brought from Purl.

Hoje vou mostrar-vos dois quilts que a minha mãe fez no Verão, para serem usados ao fim da tarde, no jardim, depois de um dia na praia. O primeiro foi inspirado neste quilt e feito sem recurso a quaisquer instruções. Tem 1,14 x 1,52 m e os tecidos são japoneses, americanos e franceses.

Today I’m going to show you two quilts my mum made this past Summer. They’re meant to be used in late afternoons, in the garden, after a day well spent at the beach. The first quilt was inspired on this one and made without any directions. It measures 1,14 x 1,52 and the fabrics are Japanese, American and French.
O segundo quilt é feito com base no modelo disappearing 9 patch e mede  1,20 x 1,60. Os tecidos são americanos e franceses.

Imagino que já tenham adivinhado que esta vai ser a semana dos quilts feitos pela minha mãe… Este mede 1,30 x 1,80 m e foi feito com um designer sampler da colecção Midwest Modern da Amy Butler, sampler esse comprado na Quilt Home. A inspiração para o modelo do quilt veio novamente deste livro. (Mafalda, este é para ti!)

I suspect that by now you’ve already realised that this is going to be the week of quilts made by my mother… This one measures 1,30 x 1,80 m and was made with a designer sampler of Midwest Modern by Amy Butler; the sampler was bought at Quilt Home. Again, the inspiration for this quilt came from this book.

Zig Zag Quilt (made by Mum)

Mais um quilt feito pela minha mãe! Este quilt zig zag, em tons de verde e cor-de-rosa, foi inspirado em fotografias de muitos outros do mesmo género. A minha mãe apontou para uma medida final de cerca de 1,50 x 2m e depois fez as contas para criar este modelo. A maior parte dos tecidos foi comprada na Purl Patchwork, em Nova Iorque. O tecido de trás é Michael Miller e veio daqui.
Another quilt made by my mother! This zig zag quilt was inspired by many photos of other zig zag quilts out there. My mum decided that she wanted a quilt measuring approximately 1,50 x 2 m and then did all the math in order to get there. Most fabrics were bought at Purl Patchwork in NYC. The backing is by Michael Miller and came from here.
