Muito obrigada por todos os comentários ao post de ontem! Pela primeira vez partilhei algo de menos bom aqui e foi óptimo sentir que não escrevo para o vazio. O que me desanimou na experiência da feira foi ter trabalhado tão intensivamente para nada, mas a minha mãe também diz que as contrariedades fortalecem o carácter… E não foi para nada, porque finalmente consegui acumular algum stock, e isso é positivo!

Thank you so much for all the comments to yesterday’s post! For the first time I shared something not so good with you and it feels great to realize I’m not writing into the void. The thing that let me down in the craft fair experience was to have worked so intensively for nothing, but as my mum also says, bad things make you stronger… Actually, I didn’t work for nothing because I’ve finally managed to acumulate some stock, and that’s a good thing!

Bem, num esforço de optimismo, vou elencar algumas razões para me alegrar:

Well, I’m making an effort to be optimistic so I’m going to make a small list of reasons to be cheerful:

“Festival Sintra em Flor”: sol, flores, música, alegria, passarinhos a cantar — era tudo isto que queríamos. Mas a minha mãe sempre disse que não se pode ter tudo o que se quer… e desta vez tinha razão. O dia foi difícil: esteve um frio húmido, apimentado por rajadas de vento que não só deitaram ao chão troncos de árvores (!), como o nosso moral. E a cereja em cima do bolo: no regresso, o nosso carro avariou na auto-estrada! Uhhuuu!!

“Sintra in Bloom Festival”: sun, flowers, music, joy, little birds singing — this was everything we wanted. But my mum always said that you can’t have everything you want… and this time she was right. It was a hard day: it was cold and humid and the wind gusts brought down not only tree branches (!), but also our moral. And the cherry on top of the cake: on the way back, our car broke down on the motorway! Uhhuuu!!

Mais coisas que levo comigo para a feira: babetes e mais malas. E aventais, porta-lenços e ainda bonecos feitos de meias. Depois mostro fotografias!
Other things I’ll bring along to the fair: bibs and more bags. And also aprons, tissue holders and sock softies. I’ll show pictures of it afterwards!

Mais uma mala do mesmo modelo — um swing bag muito alterado –, mas desta vez com uma chita “à la provençale” e forro em tecido às riscas Laura Ashley.

Another bag made with the same pattern — a very modified swing bag –, but this time with a provence-style “chita” and a Laura Ashley stripy lining.

E stand não é stand sem identificação da marca! Fiz uma grinalda com triângulos de tecido e fita de viés e usei tinta para tecidos para estampar em cada triângulo uma letra.

And there are no proper booths without a brand identification! I made a bunting with fabric triangules and bias tape and used fabric paint to stencil one letter on each triangle.

Debut

No próximo fim-de-semana vou estrear-me numa feira de “artesanato” (não me consigo identificar com esta palavra). A Luísa lançou o repto e eu, apesar de não ter stock quando li o anúncio, não podia deixar escapar esta oportunidade. Vai ser em Sintra, na Volta do Duche — aquela estrada às curvas que liga a Câmara Municipal à vila –, sábado e domingo, das 10h às 19h.

Next weekend I’ll participate in my first crafts fair. Luísa called for entries and even though I had no stock whatsoever when I read about the fair, I just couldn’t say no. It will be in Sintra (a lovely historic village near Lisbon), Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm.



Resta dizer que não tenho feito mais nada senão coser. Estas são algumas das malas que levarei comigo.

Needless to say, I have been sewing like mad. These are some of the bags I’ll be taking with me.

Dei por mim a contemplar um carrinho de linhas vazio… Mil metros, um quilómetro (!) de linha cosida. Uau. E vejam só o que chegou: mais três livros da Persephone!

I found myself staring at an empty spool of thread… One thousand metres, one kilometre (!) of sewn thread. Wow. And look what has arrived — three more Persephone books!

Isto de ser crafty e subscrever o Handmade Pledge é muito bonito… mas e quando se trata de dar presentes a homens? O que é que se pode oferecer oferecer a um homem que seja simultaneamente feito à mão e giro, útil e… uhm… masculino?! Bem, se o homem em causa tiver uma casa, pega-se no tecido mais sóbrio que se encontrar e fazem-se quatro bases para copos. A questão é: será que ele as achou giras, úteis e masculinas?…

Being crafty and taking the Handmade Pledge is all very nice… but what about when it comes to making presents for men? What can you give to a man that’s simultaneously handmade, good-looking, useful and… uhm… masculine?! Well, if the subject owns a house, you take the soberest fabric you can find and you make four coasters. The question is: did he find them good-looking, useful and masculine?…
