Terminada esta fase das pinturas, a nossa casa está a começar a mostrar o seu potencial. Uma das coisas que temos vindo a fazer — para além de arrumações — tem sido pendurar quadros nas paredes. Finalmente! Acho que quadros e cortinas são absolutamente vitais ao conforto de uma casa… e a nossa casa estava desconfortável há demasiado tempo.
Temos um pé direito muito alto e resolvemos dar destaque a uma das paredes da sala com um arranjo algo ecléctico (mas não demasiado fortuito) de quadros. Há inúmeros exemplos deste estilo de “gallery wall” pela internet fora e muitos conselhos em relação à melhor maneira de obter este efeito (ver aqui e aqui), mas o método de planear tudo ao milímetro e fazer moldes de papel acabou por não funcionar no nosso caso. Comecei por colocar os quadros no chão mas rapidamente fiquei sem espaço, por isso o que acabámos por fazer foi pendurar primeiro os quadros maiores e depois ir distribuindo as cores (tanto das molduras como das gravuras) de uma forma relativamente equilibrada ao longo da parede.
O processo levou três dias e ainda não está concluído… o Rodrigo é um querido mas nem sempre facilita este tipo de coisas. Quando estiver tudo pronto, voltarei a escrever sobre o assunto!
As soon as these weeks of painting came to an end we began to see the true potential of this house. One of the things that’s been keeping us busy lately — apart from tidying up — is hanging art on the walls. Finally! I think art and curtains are absolutely crucial in order to make a house feel comfortable… and our home has been uncomfortable for too long.
 
We’ve got high ceilings and we decided to make a feature out of one of the walls in the living room: we went for an eclectic (but not too random) arrangement of art on the wall. There are countless examples of “gallery walls” online and lots of good advice on how to create them (see here and here) but in the end that method of careful planning and paper templates didn’t really work for us. I started by placing the frames on the floor but quickly ran out of space, so what we did instead was to hang the larger pieces first and then try to balance the colours (both in terms of frames and the artwork itself) throughout the wall.
 
The whole process took us three days and we still haven’t finished it… Rodrigo is lovely but he makes it tricky to get things done around here. Once it’s completed you’ll hear from me again!

    Eu preciso de fazer para as escadas uma photo wall. algo que quero fazer faz tempo. acho que um dia começo por ir colocando as fotos uma a uma. Se estou à espera deter todas e tentar fazer o esquema nunca mais faço :s

    Adoro também os teus quadros! Tens dicas de onde possa encontrar na internet alguns quadros?
    Mudámo-nos para Edimburgo há 3 semanas (mais uma mudança! ) e por isso temos novamente um espaço novo para decorar!
