De Palette a Mesa de Café :: From Pallet to Coffee Table

Como transformar uma palette numa mesa de café:
1. ir buscar uma palette ao lixo (escolher uma em bom estado);
2. esfregá-la com uma solução de água e lixívia;
3. comprar quatro grandes rodas (as maiores que forem vendidas no armazém de bricolage) e aparafusá-las à parte de baixo da palette, uma em cada canto;
4. colocar a mesa à frente do sofá e enchê-la de livros, revistas e flores (estou tão orgulhosa das minhas sardinheiras!).
How to turn a pallet into a coffee table:

1. find a nice looking pallet near some waste bins;

2. wash it thoroughly with water and bleach;

3. buy four castor wheels (choose the largest ones your local diy shop sells) and screw them under the pallet, one on each corner;

4. place the table in front of your sofa and fill it with books, magazines and flowers (I’m so proud of my pelargoniums!).

Fim-de-semana :: Weekend

Lixar (e pintar) uma mesa, lavar (e transformar) uma palette, podar, lavar janelas — com muita chuva e algum sol de permeio — assim foi o nosso fim-de-semana.
Sanding (and painting) a table, washing (and repurposing) a shipping pallet, pruning, window washing — amongst heavy showers and some sunny spells — thus was our weekend.

Morangos Silvestres :: Wild Strawberries

O poder da jardinagem continua a espantar-me. Na Primavera semeei umas sementes de morangos silvestres; pus os vasos à janela, reguei e umas mini-plantas foram crescendo… a certa altura transplantei-as para o jardim e agora tenho morangos! A sério, se eu consigo fazer nascer fruta a partir de sementes microscópicas, qualquer pessoa consegue.
The power of gardening never ceases to amaze me. In spring I sowed wild strawberry seeds; I placed the pots on a windowsill, watered them and several mini-plants started growing… some months later, I transplanted them into the garden and now I’ve got strawberries! Really, if I can make fruit grow out of some microscopic seeds, so can you.

Almofada :: Cushion

Apesar de me apetecer começar a fazer coisas para o bebé (a lista continua a aumentar), tenho ainda mais vontade de despachar os projectos que estão pendentes e tornar a nossa casa o mais confortável e agradável possível. O Tiago passou o fim-de-semana a pintar a entrada (de branco, claro) e agora chegou a vez da sala, a divisão de que menos gosto. As paredes ainda são amarelas, os cortinados ainda são os mesmos de chintz que cá estavam quando nos mudámos e a alcatifa… não gosto mesmo nada da alcatifa. No entanto, como não temos orçamento para a mudar, resolvi assumi-la em vez de estar sempre a lutar contra ela. Este tom verde acinzentado fica pessimamente com cores vivas — então virei-me para os verdes-água, azuis-claros e cinzentos. Hoje fiz uma capa de almofada com restos de tecidos da Amy Butler que usei para fazer poufs (vem mais um a caminho); no verso, três grandes botões brancos (agora que sei fazer casas, não quero outra coisa). Agora só falta pintar as paredes, fazer cortinados, comprar mais um sofá… mas lá chegaremos. 
Although I really want to start making things for the baby (the list goes on and on), I’m feeling the urge to tackle unfinished projects and to make our home as comfortable and agreeable as possible. Tiago spent last weekend painting the hallway (white, of course) and now it’s time to focus on the sitting room, the room I like the least in our house. The walls are still yellow, the curtains are still the same chintzy ones that were hanging when we first moved in and the carpet… well, I really dislike it. However, since we have no budget to replace it with something nicer, I’ve decided to embrace it rather that fight it. This shade of greyish green is impossible to pair with bright colours — so I’m going for aqua greens, light blues and greys. Today I made a cushion cover with Amy Butler leftovers from making ottomans (there’s a new one coming soon); in the back I placed three large, white buttons (now that I can finally make buttonholes I can’t stop). Now we just have to paint the walls, sew some curtains, buy another sofa… but we’ll get there.

Gum Drop Pillow

Todas as noites tenho acolchoado à mão o meu quilt. Cada linha demora cerca de uma hora e o que me vale é a televisão estar constantemente a passar episódios do Poirot e da Miss Marple. Para combater a monotonia, ontem à tarde fiz este pouf para a nossa sala. É a versão mais pequena dos Gum Drop Pillows da Amy Butler, um dos meus moldes preferidos de sempre: fácil, rápido e eficaz. Já o já fiz várias vezes ao longo dos anos e espero fazer pelo menos mais dois num futuro próximo: outro (maior) para a sala e um para o quarto do bebé.
Every evening I’ve been hand-quilting my coin quilt. Each line takes me roughly one hour and what keeps me going is the constant replays of Poirot and Miss Marple on tv. As a way to fight monotony, yesterday I made this ottoman for our sitting room. It’s the smaller version of the Gum Drop Pillows by Amy Butler, one of my favourite patterns ever: easy, fast and so rewarding. I’ve made it several times in the past and I intend to make at least two more in the near future: a larger one also for the sitting room and one for the nursery.

Bebé :: Baby

Ultimamente tenho comprado muitos livros de crianças em lojas de caridade. A minha mãe começou a tricotar. E eu já tenho uma lista mental das coisas que quero fazer em termos de quarto e roupa. É que lá para o início de Fevereiro chegará um bebé cá a casa… Estamos muito contentes!
Lately I’ve been buying lots of children’s books in charity shops. My mother has started knitting. And I’ve already composed a mental list of everything I want to make in terms of nursery and clothing items. The thing is, there’ll be a baby coming to this house in the beginning of February… We are very happy!

Go Faster Polo Sweater

Esta altura do ano é óptima para dar avanço a projectos que ficaram pendurados durante o ano (ou vários anos). Para mim o ano novo começa em Setembro e gosto de entrar nele com a casa arrumada e sem demasiados wips (works in progress) espalhados por cestos, gavetas e prateleiras. Aproveitei a visita da minha mãe para acabar de tricotar esta camisola (deste livro de modelos). A ajuda da minha mãe foi preciosa e agora só falta coser!
This time of year is great to finish up any projects that have been left unfinished during the year(s). For me the year truly starts in September and I like to step into it with a tidy house and not too many wips lurking around in baskets, drawers and shelves. I took advantage of my mother’s stay to finish knitting this sweater (from this pattern book). Her help was crucial and now I just have to sew it up!
