De todos os quilts que a minha mãe já fez, este é o meu preferido até à data. Foi feito com camisas de quatro homens da família e sei a quem pertenceu cada bocado de tecido. Como os algodões das camisas são sempre óptimos, e visto que as camisas foram lavadas tantas vezes, o quilt é ultra suave e confortável. E porque a minha mãe ficou impressionada com o frio inglês, usou um enchimento 100% lã (Hobbs Heirloom Wool, comprado na dotQuilts em Lisboa). O quilt foi feito para o Tiago (eu também tive direito a um, que mostrarei assim que lhe coser o binding), mas acho que quem o vai usar sou eu…
Of all the quilts my mother has sewn so far, this one is my favourite. It’s made with shirts that used to belong to four men of our family and I know exactly who owned which bit of fabric. Since shirting cotton tends to be of high quality and because the shirts were washed so many times the quilt is extremely soft and cosy. And due to the rigours of English winters, my mother used 100% wool batting (Hobbs Heirloom Wool, bought at dotQuilts in Lisbon). Ficou muito lindo!! A idéia de usar camisas dos queridos é fantástica! Um toque a mais de carinho sobre o quilt! Eu, que não sou chegada a azuis, achei que ficou muito bom, deu até vontade de fazer um igual (meu marido que se cuide com suas camisas, heheh!!).

muito bonito constanca! um memory quilt! tenho imensas t-shirts guardadas da minha mais nova e um livro para fazer uma coisa do genero… mas algodao de t-shirt e dificil de coser e ainda nao me atrevi, tenho o batting e tudo!

My grandmother made a few shirt quilts in the '60s and '70s, though they feature bright colors in crazy patterns- bright orange, brown, red, etc. There was no attempt to coordinate the fabrics! I have one of them, and I love it, though it is falling apart. Like you say, the materials are so soft, and she filled hers with cotton which she picked in a field. She has a tradition of making each grandchild a quilt as a wedding gift, and I'm the last one to get married (next fall sometime). I keep telling her I want a new shirt quilt stuffed with cotton, and she thinks I am crazy! Those do make the best quilts, though. 🙂 Yours is beautiful! I love all the blue patterns.

I love your bilingual blog! What a great idea. My husband has a bag of shirts he just put in his car to give away. I think I will now grab it back from him and make a quilt for our son. I feel sentimental just thinking about my boy having a quilt of the shirts his daddy wore to work everyday. My heart just may explode now.

Olá Concha, está lindo, nunca me tinha lembrado de usar camisas para isso (fiz um “edredon”) mas com calças de ganga, modéstia à parte também ficou engraçado.

What a lovely quilt, the colours are so cool and calm. I was wondering though, why you do the binding? My husband tends to wear polo shirts, so not much chance of cutting them up when he's not watching!! dev x

I do the binding because I enjoy it and I save my mother some work!
The quilt measures 1,33 x 1,78 m (55.5 x 70 inches).

Lucky you! I have a quilt made by my grandmother (who died before I was born). It is made from scraps of the dresses my mother and grandmother had worn — a treasure!

Hi, I adore your blog, it gives stability and contentment to my life. I am interested in patchwork and I'd love to learn. I believe I can do most of the work, but have no idea about the padding itself. Could you please provide a tutorial about that? I need to learn to pad a quilt and I don't know how to do that.
