Emoldurar Objectos :: Framing Objects

Todos nós temos gavetas e fundos de armário cheios de objectos que, com o passar do tempo, se tornaram obsoletos mas que, por razões estéticas ou sentimentais, não queremos deitar fora. O que fazer com eles? Eu proponho que os ponhamos na parede. Ontem emoldurei estes fios de cerzir mas há tantos outros candidatos ao mesmo tratamento: roupa de bebé, canetas, relógios, cartas antigas, selos, carimbos, carrinhos de linhas em madeira, agulheiros de prata, pequenos brinquedos… a lista é interminável.
We all have drawers and cupboards full of objects that have become obsolete but are too precious to throw away for aesthetic or sentimental reasons. What shall we do with them? I suggest we hang them on the wall. Yesterday I framed these darning yarns but there are so many other candidates to this kind of treatment: baby clothes, pens, watches, antique letters, stamps, wooden spools, silver needle-cases, small toys… the list just goes on and on.

Todas as semanas vasculho as lojas de caridade em busca de tesouros esquecidos: livros, bric-à-brac, tecidos, roupa passível de ser transformada em sacos. De vez em quando tenho sorte e encontro um kilt de pura lã escocesa, um casaco feito com Harris Tweed… e fico contente por poder dar nova vida a materiais tão bons. Depois há que descoser, lavar, passar a ferro – e recriar.
Every week I browse all the local charity shops in search of forgotten treasures: books, bric-à-brac, fabrics, clothes that have the potential to be transformed into bags. Sometimes I get lucky and find a pure wool Scottish kilt, a Harris Tweed coat… and I feel glad that I can breathe new life into such high-quality materials. Then comes all the unpicking, washing, ironing – and recreating.

Handmade Christmas :: Gift Wrap

Este ano embrulhei os presentes com mapas desactualizados que encontrei em lojas de caridade (como adoro estas lojas!). Estou rendida a este papel de embrulho alternativo.

This year I’ve wrapped the presents in old maps I found in charity shops (how I love these shops!). I’m quite smitten with this alternative wrapping paper.

Shop Update :: Tweed & Tartan Bags

A loja foi actualizada com seis novos Tweed & Tartan Bags. Para contrariar a tendência das aborrecidas carteiras de Inverno que há por aí (quase sempre disponíveis em pele preta ou castanha), criei estes sacos únicos e irrepetíveis em patchwork de fazendas britânicas, muitas delas recuperadas de antigos kilts escoceses de pura lã. Suaves ao toque mas simultaneamente bastante resistentes, estes tweeds e tartans prometem alegrar o Inverno que aí vem. Estão disponíveis aqui.
The shop has been updated with six new Tweed & Tartan Bags. They are a nice alternative to the either black or brown leather Winter bags that one finds almost everywhere. I’ve made these one-of-a-kind bags using British wool materials, most of them recycled from old Scottish, pure wool kilts. Soft to the touch but incredibly hard-wearing, these tweeds and tartans are bound to cheer up the upcoming Winter. They are available here.
