Bolota :: Acorn

Uma amiga minha queria dar um boneco a uma criança de dois anos e pediu-me para o fazer. Folheámos vários livros e revistas, até que nos decidimos pela bolota proposta no nº 3 da revista Sew Hip. O Tiago diz que parece um cruzamento entre um cogumelo e uma carcaça, e de facto é uma bolota um pouco bizarra… no entanto, espero que o seu sorriso à marialva e o guizo que pus lá dentro sejam suficientes para que não acabe no fundo de uma gaveta.

A friend of mine wanted to give a toy to a 2-year-old child and asked me to make it. We fliped through some books and magazines and ended up choosing the acorn in Sew Hip‘s issue 3. Tiago says it looks like the bad result of a good relationship between a mushroom and a Portuguese roll and I reckon it’s a rather bizarre acorn… nevertheless, I hope its smile and the bell I placed inside will be enough to prevent it for living inside a drawer.

Maya

Por vezes, pessoas de diferentes nacionalidades conhecem-se, apaixonam-se e dão origem a novas pessoas. É o caso de uma menina que é simultaneamente portuguesa e dinamarquesa; loura e de olhos azuis, não deixa de ser tão lusa quanto eu. Esta boneca (uma nova versão destas duas que fiz na altura do Natal) pretende retratar esse encontro de culturas: o seu cabelo louro vem de uma camisola amarela em pura lã (que pertenceu a um tio meu quando era pequeno), os olhos azuis foram bordados e o vestido é numa chita de que gosto especialmente. Espero que a pequena Maya se identifique com a sua nova amiga.

Sometimes people from different nationalities meet, fall in love and originate new people. There is this little girl who is simultaneously Portuguese and Danish; she is blonde and has blue eyes and yet she is as Portuguese as I am. This doll (a new version of these two I made over last Christmas) is an attempt to show this cultural encounter: her blonde hair comes from an old pure wool jumper (that belonged to one of my uncles when he was a child), her blue eyes are embroided and her dress is made of a ‘chita’ (Portuguese traditional fabric) I especially love. I hope little Maya will be able to see herself in her new friend.

Eis as tais fitas que comprei em Madrid. Diferentes e mais baratas do que as que se encontram em Lisboa, mas sempre nas minhas cores. Por mais que tente, na altura de pedir à senhora atrás do balcão que as corte, inclino-me invariavelmente para estes tons.

Here are the ribbons I bought in Madrid. Different and cheaper from those one finds in Lisbon but always in my colours. As hard as I try, when it comes to asking the lady behind the counter to cut them I invariably choose these colour tones.

Após algumas semanas de ausência, volto ao sunday stash. Esta semana fui a Madrid e claro que visitei algumas retrosarias! De lá trouxe estes três cortes de tecido; amanhã mostro as fitas que também comprei.

After some weeks absence, I’m back to sunday stash. I went to Madrid this week and of course I visited a couple of haberdashers! I bought these three pieces of fabric; tomorrow I’ll show you the ribbons I also picked up.

:: Duas clutches novas: uma para uma amiga que faz anos, outra para mim.
:: Um novo esquema cromático de eleição: preto, branco e amarelo. Hoje também me vesti nestas cores.
:: Embirração com o amarelo está a desaparecer. Com o roxo também. Terá a ver com o facto de serem as cores “tendência” (já não aguento esta expressão)? Lembro-me de quando eram vistas como o cúmulo do mau-gosto.
:: E por falar em tendências, estou rendida ao CHIC – Le magazine des tendances et des modes de vie en Europe, um programa diário da Arte.
:: Continuo a tentar aprender técnicas de styling. Tenho de ir tentando sem medos!

:: Two new clutches: one for a friend who celebrates her birthday, the other for myself.
:: A new favourite colour scheme: black, white and yellow. Today I got dressed in those colours as well.
:: Dislike for yellow disappearing. The same goes for purple. Is it because they are the trend colours of the moment? I remember when they were considered utter bad taste.
:: Speaking of trends, I’m hooked on CHIC – Le magazine des tendances et des modes de vie en Europe, an Arte daily show.
:: I’m still trying to teach myself some styling tricks. I have to keep on trying fearlessly!

Uns quantos novelos de lã em saldos foram o pretexto para a minha mãe tricotar esta manta. O modelo é original e, como tem as cores da minha casa, ficou para mim!

A bunch of skeins of wool on sale was the reason my mum knitted this throw. The pattern is her own and, because it’s made in the colours of my home, it has been given to me!
