Viva o Inverno :: Enjoy Winter

Estou de volta às lides cibernéticas, não sem antes ter passado ao Tiago a maldita virose que me atacou sem piedade (coitado… mas já está quase bom). Muito obrigada por tantos comentários – nunca pensei que a expressão “não me tenho sentido muito bem” desse origem a tanta simpatia! É bom saber que gostam de acompanhar este blog e que se interessam pelo meu bem-estar. Entretanto fiz 29 anos, passei uns dias na Cornualha e fui buscar a minha mãe ao aeroporto. E agora, toca a trabalhar! 
[após três quilts e agora três capas para sacos de água quente, pergunto-me: será que a minha mãe acha acha que esta casa é fria?]
I’m back in cyberspace, but not before having successfully infected Tiago with my illness (poor him… he’s much better now). Thank you so much for all your comments – I never thought the mere expression “I haven’t been feeling very well” would generate so much sympathy from you! It’s nice to know that you enjoy reading this blog and care about my well-being. Meanwhile, I turned 29, spent a few days in Cornwall and picked up my mother from the airport. And now: back to work!

Babetes Anti-Nódoas :: Wipeable Bibs

Apesar de não ser grande fã de plástico, tenho de admitir que é muito prático nalgumas circunstâncias – um exemplo óbvio é dar de comer às crianças. Não vou abandonar os babetes de tecido que gosto tanto de fazer, porque acho que são perfeitos para bebés mais pequenos que se babam muito e cuja alimentação é bastante simples. Mas, no caso de crianças mais velhas que comem sopas e sólidos, nada como um babete em oleado à hora da refeição.

Deixo-vos com um filme bastante curto e básico, cuja banda sonora foi composta pelos pássaros aqui das redondezas. Os babetes estarão na loja logo que eu descubra a maneira ideal de os enviar pelo correio.


Although I’m not a great fan of plastic, I have to admit that it can be very practical in certain occasions – an obvious example is feeding children. I’m not going to stop making my fabric bibs because I think they’re ideal for younger babies who are constantly drooling and who eat very simple food. But, when it comes to toddlers who eat soups and solids, nothing beats an oilcloth bib at mealtimes.


I’ll leave you with a very short, basic film, whose soundtrack was composed by the neighbouring birds. The bibs will be available in my shop as soon as I figure out the ideal way of posting them.

De vez em quando deparo-me com tecidos especiais, claramente de uma outra época. Antigos cortinados, colchas, outros ainda por estrear. Tenho grandes planos para eles mas, por outro lado, não os consigo cortar…
Once in a while I come across special fabrics, clearly from another era. Old curtains, bedspreads, others still unused. I’ve got great plans for them but I haven’t got the heart to cut them…

Panos da loiça são algo fundamental numa cozinha. Para além da sua óbvia função, são uma boa maneira de trazer cores e padrões a uma divisão onde se passa tanto tempo. E, como devem ser mudados quase diariamente, convém ter muitos. O site britânico All Tea Towels ofereceu-me três panos à escolha e decidi-me por dois de puro linho e um de algodão: este, este e este. A qualidade é excelente, o serviço óptimo (rápido e personalizado) e a escolha vasta. E agora a boa notícia: há um pano a sorteio! Tea towels are an absolute necessity in a kitchen. Beside their obvious purpose, they’re a great way of bringing colour and pattern to a room where one spends so much time. And, since they should be changed almost daily, one should own lots of them. The British site All Tea Towels offered me the choice of three tea towels and I picked two pure linen cloths and a cotton one: this, this and this. Presentes feitos à mão são das melhores coisas do mundo e, sempre que recebo algum, fico a pensar se terei conseguido exprimir bem a minha gratidão. Mas presentes inesperados de leitoras deste blog… nem tenho palavras para explicar o quanto me tocam.
Handmade presents are one of the best things in the world and whenever I’m lucky to receive one, I worry if I’m able to show how grateful I am for them. But unexpected gifts from readers… well, I can’t really express how much they mean to me.
Há uns meses recebi estas pegas feitas pela Cristina. Como podem imaginar, não poderiam ficar melhor na minha cozinha. Confesso que não as consigo usar… estão em exposição!
Some months ago I received these potholders made by Cristina. As you can well imagine, they couldn’t look any better in my kitchen. I confess I haven’t got the heart to actually use them… they are in display!
Depois foi a vez desta caixa feita pela Cláudia. Reconhecem as flores? A Cláudia comprou esta écharpe e, ao preparar a encomenda, atei o embrulho com uma tira do mesmo tecido. Pois bem, a Cláudia aproveitou esse bocadinho de tecido para decorar a caixa!
Then I got this box made by Cláudia. Do you recognise these flowers? Cláudia bought this scarf and I tied the packet with a strip of the same fabric. Well, she made use of that small piece of fabric to decorate the box!
E há uns dias chegou-me esta almofada de alfazema inteiramente executada pela Sandra. Já conheço os bordados da Sandra há uns anos e, para mim que adoro bordados monocromáticos, são dos mais bonitos que tenho visto até agora. E o cheiro da alfazema portuguesa não se compara ao cheiro da alfazema do meu jardim inglês: é intenso, doce e repleto de memórias.

Finally, a few days ago this lavender sachet arrived in the post. It was made by Sandra – I’ve admired her embroidery skills for years and since I love monochromatic schemes, I think her pieces are some of the most beautiful I’ve seen so far. And let me tell you about the scent of Portuguese lavender, so different from the scent of the lavender I grow in my English garden: it’s strong, sweet and filled with memories.

Tweed & Tartan Tote Bags

Por muito que custe, o Inverno ainda só vai a meio. Pela frente temos uns meses de camisolas de lã, botas, casacões… e claro que precisamos de sacos a condizer. Estes dois acabam de ser postos na loja.
As hard as it can be, we’re only halfway through Winter. We still have ahead of us a few months of wool jumpers, boots, coats… and we obviously need some matching bags. These two have just been listed in the shop.
