Scarf Week :: Saídos da Concha

Há uns meses encontrei uns tecidos especiais. Quando toquei neles e senti um algodão fino e suave, pensei imediatamente que seriam perfeitos como écharpes. Foi assim que surgiu esta pequena colecção, que estará disponível na loja a partir de amanhã. Durante o dia ou numa saída à noite, para ir trabalhar ou ao fim-de-semana, uma écharpe é muito mais que um acessório.
A few months ago I found some very special fabrics. When I touched them and felt a fine, soft cotton, I immediately thought they’d be perfect as scarves. And so this small collection was born – it will be available in the shop tomorrow. For both day and night time outfits, to go to work or at the weekend, a scarf is much more than an accessory.

Calças de Pijama :: Pyjama Bottoms

Em Maio propus-me o desafio de fazer pelo menos um projecto de cada livro de crafts que tenho na minha estante. Em Junho nada fiz e este mês repeti algo que já tinha feito… uhm, este desafio não está a correr particularmente bem.
Last May I challenged myself to make at least one project from every craft book on my shelves. I did nothing in June and this month I made something I’d already made… uhm, this challenge isn’t going particularly well.
Voltei às calças de pijama do Weekend Sewing – já as tinha feito para o Tiago e agora foi a vez da minha mãe (entretanto fiz umas para mim mas ainda não as fotografei). Usei um tecido da Anna Griffin e deixei as baínhas para quando estiver em Lisboa (mal posso esperar pelas férias!). 
I sewed another version of Weekend Sewing‘s pyjama bottoms – I had made them for Tiago and this time my mother was the recipient (I’ve also made them for myself but haven’t photographed them yet). The fabric I used is by Anna Griffin and they’ll only be hemmed when I’m in Lisbon (I’m very excited about our upcoming holidays!).

Passar a Ferro :: Ironing

Já tenho um ferro novo. É um modelo Morphy Richards todo ‘xpto’ e comprei-o por menos de metade do preço (como eu adoro a internet). Sei que me aconselharam Rowenta mas o meu ferro antigo – supostamente fantástico – era dessa marca mas só durou três anos. E porquê tanta conversa sobre ferros de engomar? É que um dos segredos de uma peça bem feita é ir engomando todas as costuras, o que significa que, sem ferro, não consigo trabalhar.
I’ve got a new iron. It’s a Morphy Richards model with lots of bells and whistles and I managed to buy it for less than half price (oh how I love the internet). I know you told me to buy Rowenta but my previous iron – which was meant to be great – was by Rowenta and only lasted for three years. But what’s the reason of all this talk about irons, you may ask? Actually, one of the secrets of a well-made item is to iron all the seams, which means that, without an iron, I can’t work.

Shop Update :: Baby Bibs

Adoro fazer estes babetes. Já tentei outras versões – maiores, em oleado (óptimo para nódoas mas dificílimo de coser) -, mas volto sempre a esta. São divertidos de fazer porque permitem, de forma rápida e intuitiva, conjugar muitos tecidos diferentes, e gosto de imaginar os bebés que os irão usar. São ideais para serem usados entre refeições, – se bem que aguentem muitas lavagens – e são o presente perfeito para um recém-nascido. Há seis novos na loja.
I love sewing these bibs. I’ve tryed making other versions – larger, in laminated cotton (great for stains but rather challenging to sew) – but I always come back to this one. They’re fun to make because they allow me to combine different fabrics in a quick, intuitive way, and I often think about the babies that will wear them. They’re especially great between meals – although they do withstand dozens of washings – and make the perfect gift for a newborn or a baby shower. There are six new ones in the shop.

Retro Flowers Beach Bag

Fiz um novo saco de praia, desta vez com um tecido que comprei na Dinamarca e que parece dos anos 60. Usei este modelo de saco na nossa recente viagem a França e posso assegurar-vos de que é ideal não só para a praia, como para ir a mercados, passear na cidade ou passar um dia no campo. Está disponível na loja (e por falar em loja, estive a actualizar a conversão dos preços).
I’ve made a new beach bag, this time with a piece of retro fabric I bought in Denmark last year. I carried a bag like this in our recent trip to France and I can assure you that it is not only great as a beach bag, it’s also perfect for visiting markets, strolling in the city centre or spending a day in the country. The bag is available in the shop (and since I mention the shop, I’ve just updated the currency rates).
Entretanto os nossos novos vizinhos (vitelos com 14-18 meses) acharam graça à sessão fotográfica e vieram espreitar…
Whilst we were photographing the bag, our new neighbours (14-18 months old calves) were intrigued and came to see what was going on…

Sacos de Praia :: Beach Bags

Entre outras coisas, tenho estado a desenvolver um modelo de saco de praia, algo que queria fazer há mais de dois anos. Gosto de sacos grandes, em que caiba a toalha, o livro, o protector solar, o picnic, a camisola para o fim da tarde… Como tenho sempre medo que as chaves do carro/casa caiam na areia e se percam para sempre, resolvi acrescentar um gancho ao bolso interior. Depois de fazer o saco das flores, achei que deveria alterar ligeiramente o molde e, em seguida, fiz o saco das riscas. Estão ambos na loja e prometo que em breve haverá mais!
Amongst other things, I’ve been working on a beach bag pattern, something I’ve been meaning to do for over two years now. I like large bags with plenty of room to fit one’s towel, book, sunscreen, picnic, sweater… As I’m always afraid that my car/house keys will fall into the sand and disappear forever, I’ve  decided to add a swivel hook next to the bag’s inside pocket. After sewing the flower bag, I made a few alterations to the paper pattern and then made the striped bag. They’re both available in the shop and I promise there’ll be much more soon!
