Rethink it

Esta semana não me parece que vá ter tempo para grandes costuras, por isso deixo aqui algumas imagens de uma revista da Martha Stewart chamada Good Things for the Home que, apesar de ter quase um ano, ainda me espanta com as suas sugestões criativas e inteligentes.

I don’t think I’ll have much time to sew this week — I’ll leave you with some images from one of Martha Stewart‘s special issues of Good Things for the Home, a magazine that, although it’s nearly one year old, keeps on surprising me with its creative, clever ideas.

Mais descobertas no baú da minha avó (estas estavam efectivamente dentro de uma arca): roupa de bonecas do início dos anos 60. Mostro aqui as peças que achei mais giras — adoro o tecido florido do primeiro vestido, assim como o pormenor do botão em forma de veado na gola; o segundo é a minha cara e o terceiro!! Quem é que aguenta este fato-de-banho sixties? É demasiado bom!

More discoveries from my grandmother’s trunk (these were actually inside one): doll’s clothes from the early 60’s. I’m showing you the cutest ones I found — I love the flowery fabric of the first dress as well as the reindeer-shaped button on the collar; the second one is just me and the third one!! This 60’s swimsuit is too good to be true!

Em relação ao desafio de ontem, confesso estar sem palavas… entre a ponta de vergonha de estar descaradamente fishing for compliments e a alegria de ler comentários tão calorosos, fico sobretudo contente por saber que tenho leitoras fiéis e por ficar a conhecer pessoas que visitam este blog mas não costumam deixar rasto. O desafio continua aberto até ao fim-de-semana!

As far as yesterday’s challenge is concerned, I’m speechless… amongst feeling a little bit ashamed to be fishing for compliments and the joy of reading such warm comments, I’m especially happy to realize I’m lucky to have faithful readers and to get to know people who visit this blog but usually don’t leave track. The challenge will be running till this weekend!

Living rooms. Ideas and inspiration for stylish living spaces: adoro este livro! Está dividido em dez capítulos — “o seu estilo”, “espaço”, “cor”, “textura”, “mobília”, “iluminação”, “janelas”, “arrumação” e “objectos” –, tem várias fotografias de cada sala, assim como explicações das opções decorativas que foram tomadas e, quanto a mim, apresenta o equilíbrio perfeito entre novo e antigo, branco e cores, texto (pertinente) e fotografias. Muito inspirador.

Living rooms. Ideas and inspiration for stylish living spaces: I love this book! It’s divided into ten chapters — “your style”, “space”, “colour”, “texture”, “furnishings”, “lighting”, “windows”, “storage” “accessories” and “display –, has several pictures of each room as well as design details and, as far as I’m concerned, shows the perfect balance between old and new, white and colours, text and photos. Very inspiring.

Cotton Time – May 2008

Até agora tinha-me cingido aos livros japoneses, mas finalmente consegui comprar uma revista Cotton Time aqui. Para além dos projectos habituais, estas revistas costumam incluir alguns ateliers. Adoro a ideia das caixas de vinho neste aqui em baixo:

Up until now I only had Japanese craft books, but I’ve finally put my hands on a Cotton Time magazine (which I bought here). Not only does it include the usual projects, it also shows us some studios. I love this idea of using wine boxes (you can see it in the two pictures below):


E que tal estes cabides? E os suportes para os carrinhos de linhas?!

What about these hangers? And the wooden rack for spools of thread?!

E quem diria que os naperons regressariam com tanta força…

Ora cá estão, tal como prometido, imagens do livro A is for Apron: 25 Fresh & Flirty Designs. Tem graça porque logo nas primeiras páginas aparece um avental folclórico português, daqueles “para turista ver”. Vêem o preto, segundo a contar da esquerda? Lá está ele!

Like I promised, here are some pictures of my new book A is for Apron: 25 Fresh & Flirty Designs. It’s funny because there’s a “typical for tourists” Portuguese apron right in the beginning of the book. See that black apron, the 2nd one on the left?Voilà!

Há muitos feitios (25, tal como o título anuncia) para todos os gostos; resolvi mostrar os meus preferidos. A combinação de tecidos nem sempre é brilhante (na minha opinião, claro está) mas o livro inclui moldes de todos os aventais (que terão de ser aumentados) e dá muitas ideias para qualquer amante de aventais.

There are many styles (25, as the book’s title states) for every taste; I’ve decided to show you my favourites. The fabric combo sometimes doesn’t suit my taste but the book includes patterns for all the aprons (wich you’ll have to enlarge) and will provide lots of inspiration for any apron lover.
