Fim-de-semana :: Weekend

Lixar (e pintar) uma mesa, lavar (e transformar) uma palette, podar, lavar janelas — com muita chuva e algum sol de permeio — assim foi o nosso fim-de-semana.
Sanding (and painting) a table, washing (and repurposing) a shipping pallet, pruning, window washing — amongst heavy showers and some sunny spells — thus was our weekend.

Almofada :: Cushion

Apesar de me apetecer começar a fazer coisas para o bebé (a lista continua a aumentar), tenho ainda mais vontade de despachar os projectos que estão pendentes e tornar a nossa casa o mais confortável e agradável possível. O Tiago passou o fim-de-semana a pintar a entrada (de branco, claro) e agora chegou a vez da sala, a divisão de que menos gosto. As paredes ainda são amarelas, os cortinados ainda são os mesmos de chintz que cá estavam quando nos mudámos e a alcatifa… não gosto mesmo nada da alcatifa. No entanto, como não temos orçamento para a mudar, resolvi assumi-la em vez de estar sempre a lutar contra ela. Este tom verde acinzentado fica pessimamente com cores vivas — então virei-me para os verdes-água, azuis-claros e cinzentos. Hoje fiz uma capa de almofada com restos de tecidos da Amy Butler que usei para fazer poufs (vem mais um a caminho); no verso, três grandes botões brancos (agora que sei fazer casas, não quero outra coisa). Agora só falta pintar as paredes, fazer cortinados, comprar mais um sofá… mas lá chegaremos. 
Although I really want to start making things for the baby (the list goes on and on), I’m feeling the urge to tackle unfinished projects and to make our home as comfortable and agreeable as possible. Tiago spent last weekend painting the hallway (white, of course) and now it’s time to focus on the sitting room, the room I like the least in our house. The walls are still yellow, the curtains are still the same chintzy ones that were hanging when we first moved in and the carpet… well, I really dislike it. However, since we have no budget to replace it with something nicer, I’ve decided to embrace it rather that fight it. This shade of greyish green is impossible to pair with bright colours — so I’m going for aqua greens, light blues and greys. Today I made a cushion cover with Amy Butler leftovers from making ottomans (there’s a new one coming soon); in the back I placed three large, white buttons (now that I can finally make buttonholes I can’t stop). Now we just have to paint the walls, sew some curtains, buy another sofa… but we’ll get there.

Férias de Verão :: Summer Holidays

… Que semana esta! Andei ocupada com dois projectos que ainda não posso divulgar e, entre coser, escrever instruções, tirar fotografias e pensar no Natal (sim, já!), não houve tempo para escrever no blog. Estas próximas semanas também vão ser bastante silenciosas por estes lados, porque vamos de férias e tenciono dar algum descanso ao computador.

Este blog tem 5 anos e meio e mais de 2000 posts, por isso há muito para explorar nos arquivos. Aqui ficam algumas sugestões para este Verão:
– fazer um saco em patchwork para guardar os sacos de supermercado (que, mesmo que a pessoa evite, acabam por se acumular no fundo de um armário);
– cristalizar flores (o Verão é a época das rosas e as pétalas são comestíveis);
– fazer bolos e bolachas para levar para a praia ou para um passeio pelo campo: madalenas, areias, queques e bolachas com pepitas de chocolate;
– aproveitar a abundância de fruta para fazer conservas;
– recarregar baterias (essencial para sobreviver ao próximo Inverno) e estar o máximo de tempo possível ao ar livre!

… What a week! I’ve been busy with two projects which I can’t share with you yet and amongst all the sewing, instruction writing, picture taking and Christmas thinking (yes, already!), I didn’t have any time left to blog. These next few weeks will also be quite silent around here because we’re going away on holidays and I’m planning to give the computer a break.

This blog is 5 and a half years old and there are more that 2000 posts to choose from, which means there’s a lot to explore in the archives. Here are some suggestions for the summer:

– make a patchwork bag to store all the bags you end up bringing from the supermarket (even if you don’t mean to);
– have a go at crystallizing flowers (roses are in season right now and their petals are edible);
– bake for a day at the beach or in the countryside: madeleines, muffins and chocolate chip cookies;
– take advantage of the abundance of fruit and make some jam;
– recharge your batteries (you’ll need them come winter!) and spend as much time as you can outdoors!

Caos Criativo :: Creative Chaos

A Alice lançou o repto de mostrarmos as nossas mesas de trabalho como elas são, ou seja, caóticas.
Para todos aqueles que perguntam se eu tenho um exército de duendes a limpar-me e arrumar-me a casa, a resposta é: não!
Gostava muito de ver as mesas da Karyn, da Anabela e da Bárbara.

Ontem chegou o poster que comprei para oferecer ao Tiago. Mais preciso que isto, só mesmo se em vez de “café” estivesse escrito “chocolate”. É verdade, sou viciada em blogs. E adoro o Tiago.

Yesterday the print I bought for Tiago arrived. It would be even more accurate if we were to replace the word”coffee” with “chocolate”. It’s true, I’m addicted to blogs. And I love Tiago.

Manequim :: Dress Form

Passei a ter companhia no quarto de costura. Há muito que queria ter um manequim, de preferência antigo e com formas de outros tempos. Procurei-o por feiras e atrás de caixotes do lixo; acabei por encontrá-lo numa liquidação total de uma loja. Não é antigo, mas por agora serve. Hoje a minha mãe e a minha avó vieram cá almoçar, e brincámos as três às toilettes.

I now have company in my sewing room. I’ve been longing for a vintage dress form for some time. I’ve searched through flea markets and behind rubbish containers; I eventually found it in a shop that’s selling all its stock because it’s closing. It’s not vintage but it will do for now. Today I invited my mum and grandmother for lunch and we had fun making up some outfits.
