Domingo em casa / Sunday at home
Neste domingo cinzento e pastelão, acabei uma encomenda pendente há um mês: um kidlet para os sacos de plástico com destino a uma cozinha no Luxemburgo. Sabe-me bem passar um dia a coser em casa.

On this grey, lazy Sunday I finally finished a commission I was asked over a month ago: a kidlet for storing plastic bags in a kitchen in Luxembourg. It feels so good to spend a day sewing at home .
Aulas de quilting / Quilting lessons
Há duas semanas comecei com aulas de quilting e não poderia ter escolhido melhor professora. Na primeira sessão aprendi a cortar e a construir os blocos; na segunda, a coser tudo e a fazer a sandwich do top, batting e backing.

Two weeks ago I started my quilting lessons. I could’t have chosen a better teacher. At the first session I learned how to cut and construct blocks; at the second one I was taught how to piece everything and how to make the top, batting and backing sandwich.
O trabalho de casa é quiltar tudo. Escolhi coser linhas a direito, pararelas aos quadrados… o problema é que não tenho walking foot (pelos vistos não há nenhum que se adapte à minha máquina de principiante). Vamos ver como corre…

My homework is to quilt it. I chose to sew straight lines that run parallel to the squares… the only problem is that I don’t own a walking foot (apparently there’s no walking foot that will fit my beginner’s sewing machine). Let’s see how it goes…
Mais cortiça / More cork
Mais uma mala em cortiça e chita. Da minha incursão ao sótão trouxe também uns pesos, que se revelaram perfeitos para desenhar os moldes antes de os cortar.

Olhem o que a minha mãe me fez: um abafador de bule em tricot! O molde é deste livro e as lãs são Coats. Não é o máximo?
Just look what my mum made for me: a knitted tea cosy! The pattern came from this book and the yarns are Coats. Isn’t it lovely?

Birdie Sling
… também conhecida como a mala que me tirou do sério. O que me fez avançar foi gostar tanto deste tecido japonês às flores. Uff, está terminada!

… a.k.a. the bag that made me curse. What kept me going was this Japanese flowers print that I love. Uff, it’s finished!
Esta birdie sling é uma faca de dois gumes: é enorme (felizmente sou alta), é pesada (deixei-me de entretelas termocolantes e afins e decidi substituir tudo por lona… sim, a lona envelhece melhor; claro, é mais natural; de facto, a textura é óptima… mas pesa!), demorou demasiadas horas a fazer… mas é tão gira, não é?

I have mixed feelings towards this birdie sling: it’s huge (but I’m tall so it’s not so bad), it’s heavy (I’m done with fusible interfacing and its friends and decided to replace everything with canvas… yes, canvas ages beautifully; sure, it’s much more natural; yeah, the texture is great… but it’s heavy!), it took much too long to sew… but it’s so cute, isn’t it?
E esta também vai passear a Nova Iorque!
