2nd blog-anniversary and a giveaway!

Este blog faz dois anos e é altura de comemorar. Ter um blog traz a reboque muitas coisas boas e uma delas é, indiscutivelmente, uma audiência. Hoje celebro o facto de não escrever para o vazio, mas sim para pessoas que comentam o que faço, que me escrevem e-mails e que sabem quem sou. Fiz este saco de Outono para vocês: para entrarem no sorteio, basta que escrevam sobre assuntos que gostariam de ver aqui tratados. Talvez dar os primeiros passos na costura? Ou to craft or not to craft? Digam de vossa justiça até 6ª feira!

This blog is now two years old and I feel it’s time to commemorate. Having a blog brings along many good things, one of them being an audience. Today I celebrate the fact that I’m not writing into the void; I write for people that commet on what I make, write me e-mails and know who I am. I have made this Autumn bag for you: to enter the giveaway, all you have to do is tell me about subjects you’d like me to write about. Maybe getting started sewing? Or perhaps to craft or not to craft? I’ll be open to your suggestions until Friday!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

… e eu começo a ficar entusiasmada com as possibilidades. Fazer enfeites e pensar em presentes para oferecer são as minhas actividades preferidas nesta época. Ah, e embrulhar os presentes!

… and I’m started to get excited with all the possibilities. Making ornaments and thinking about presents to give away are my favourite activities this time of year. Oh, and wrapping presents!

A minha coroa foi totalmente inspirada nesta e acabei de a fazer ontem à noite; aproveitei ainda para experimentar, também em cores natalícias, os pássaros deste livro.

My wreath, which I finished last night, has been totally inspired by this one; I also attempted to make this book’s birds in Christmas-y colours.

Agora só me falta decidir a questão da árvore… Queria encontrar uma alternativa tanto a uma árvore natural como a uma artificial… Vou tentar explicar o meu dilema: não quero uma árvore natural que, à semelhança do ano passado, traga bichos e deite, diariamente, folhas e resina para o chão; mas também não me apetece comprar uma árvore de plástico. O que sugerem?

Now I have to make a decision about the tree… I’d like to find an alternative both to a natural tree and to an artificial one… I’ll try to explain my dillema: I don’t want a real tree that, just like what happened last year, brings along bugs and stains our floor with dead leaves and resin; but I have no desire whatsoever to buy a plastic tree. What do you suggest I do?

Log cabin

Os quilts continuam a chamar por mim e apeteceu-me pôr em prática o que aprendi na aula passada: construir um bloco log cabin. Como a motivação para grandes projectos ainda não chegou, numa tarde fiz uma almofada para a sala com as minhas cores preferidas.

I’m still feeling the quilt appeal and I had the urge to practise what I learnt in class: building a log cabin block. I’m not in the mood for big projects so I made this pillow in my favourite colours in an afternoon.

Tradicionalmente, o bloco log cabin tem uma construção bipartida claro/escuro. No entanto, resolvi bend the rules e optei por um ar mais desarrumado para a almofada. Estou contente com o resultado — o que acham? São pelo tradicional ou pelo inesperado?

Traditional log cabin blocks are pieced in a way that enhances dark vs. light fabrics. Nevertheless, I decided to bend the rules and go for a random look. I’m quite happy with it — what do you think? Do you prefer traditional or unexpected?

Girly ottoman

Entretanto esta semana uma prima minha fez 12 anos e ofereci-lhe este pouf (a versão pequena deste e deste. O tecido é do IKEA e acho que resulta mesmo bem.

This week a cousin of mine turned 12 and I gave her this ottoman (the smaller version of this one and this one). The fabric is from IKEA and I think it works really well.

Estação do tricot / Knitting season

Quando o Outono chega, a minha mãe desata a tricotar sem parar. Todos os motivos são bons para fazer tricot: está a chover ou está frio ou é de noite. Estou a tentar convencê-la a abrir uma loja Etsy para escoar tanta produção!

When Autumn arrives my mum starts knitting non-stop. Everything is a good reason to knit: it’s raining/it’s cold/it’s dark. I’m trying to persuade her into opening her own Esty shop so that she can sell some of her productions!

Uma questão de enchimento / A matter of stuffing

Nos últimos meses tem-se debatido cá em casa o enchimento deste pouf. Uns dizem que é muito mole e que, quando se sentam, o pouf vai abaixo. Outros aconselham vivamente o uso de bolinhas de esferovite em vez disto. O que é certo é que o pouf encarnado está tão cheio que literalmente rebenta pelas costuras.

In the last few months there has been a discussion around here about this ottoman‘s stuffing. Some say the ottoman is too soft and when you sit on it, it almost turns flat. Others recommend the use of those little styrofoam balls instead of this. Truth is the red ottoman is so full it’s starting to fall apart.

Um grande amigo meu vai mudar-se para a sua primeira casa e já várias vezes me tinha dito que gostava que eu lhe fizesse um pouf de ganga. Rendi-me então à esferovite e ontem à tarde fiz e enchi o pouf. Não fica tão giro como o outro — tem um ar mais vazio e inacabado –mas é muito mais flexível e confortável.

A great friend of mine is moving to his first flat and he told me he’d love to be offered a denim ottoman. So I surrendered to styrofoam and yesterday afternoon I made and filled this ottoman. It didn’t turn out as cute as the other one — it looks emptier and a bit unfinished — but it’s much more flexible and comfy.



Aqui dá para ver a diferença entre os dois. Acho que o conforto é mais importante que a beleza, por isso um dia destes vou substituir o enchimento do pouf encarnado.

Here you can spot the difference between the two of them. I think comfort is more important than looks so one of these days I’ll be replacing the red ottoman’s stuffing.
