Lençóis :: Flat Sheets
Apesar de não querer transformar isto num blog exclusivamente sobre o Rodrigo, a verdade é que os meus dias giram à volta dele e é difícil arranjar tempo para fazer outras coisas que não atender às necessidades deste rapazinho. Em Junho fiz mais dois lençóis para a cama de grades como este, com o mesmo pano de lençol e outros entremeios e terminais bordados. Sei que muita gente põe os bebés a dormir em sacos-cama (pelo que li, 95% dos bebés britânicos dormem num) e ainda hei-de experimentá-los, mas eu própria gosto tanto de dormir em (bons) lençóis que não resisto a pô-los também na cama do Rodrigo.
Even though I have no wish to turn this blog into a space exclusively focused on Rodrigo, the truth is that at the moment my days revolve around him and it’s hard to find time to do other things besides attending to this little boy’s needs. In June I made two more cot sheets such as this one, using the same material and other embroidered panels. I’m aware that most people put their babies to sleep in grobags (from what I’ve read, apparently 95% of British babies sleep in one) and I’m planning on giving them a try. But since I personally love sleeping in (good quality) sheets I can’t resist using them on Rodrigo’s bed as well…

Seis Meses :: Six Months
Ontem o Rodrigo fez seis meses e celebrou-os com meia vela. Fomos passear e vimos uma casa muito bonita e muitas flores silvestres. Foi um dia muito feliz.
(A camisola foi tricotada pela mãe e o modelo vem no The Sixth Little Sublime Hand Knit Book. A cadeira é antiga e foi comprada numa loja de caridade.)
Yesterday Rodrigo celebrated his half birthday with half a candle. We visited a very beautiful house and saw many wildflowers. It was a very happy day.
(His jumper was knitted by my mother with a pattern from The Sixth Little Sublime Hand Knit Book. The highchair is vintage and was found at a local charity shop.)

A Tatiana Figueiredo e eu andámos na mesma turma durante anos no colégio mas há muito tempo que não sabia nada dela. Qual não foi o meu espanto quando um dia recebi um email da Tatiana a falar-me no blog dela, o The Close Up, e a perguntar se eu estaria disponível para responder a umas perguntas sobre as minhas escolhas e o meu estilo de vida. Tecidos Novos :: New Fabrics
No escritório há uma pilha de tecidos novos já lavados e à espera de serem engomados. Comprei-os este Verão a pensar em quilt kits.
In my study there’s a pile of new fabrics all washed and ready to be ironed. I’ve bought them this summer and they’ll be turned into quilt kits very soon.

Ando a tricotar uma camisola bretã para o Rodrigo. O modelo vem neste livro francês e é a minha estreia nas riscas — que vale é que a minha mãe está sempre disponível para ajudar-me a resolver os desafios que vão aparecendo (já alguma vez tricotaram via Skype?). A propósito, estou completamente rendida às agulhas circulares Addi. A minha mãe tem este estojo mas, apesar de achar a ideia brilhante, queixa-se de alguns defeitos no sistema de encaixe das agulhas. Eu estou a comprar as minhas pouco a pouco, aqui em Inglaterra, e tenho escolhido o fio com 80 cm. Curiosamente, descobri umas no Corte Inglés em Lisboa que, apesar de virem numa embalagem Coats, são Addi. A Retrosaria também as vende.
I’m knitting a Breton top for Rodrigo. The pattern is from this French book and it’s the first time I’m knitting stripes — I’m glad my mother is always available to help me overcome any knitting challenges I may encounter (have you ever knitted via Skype?). By the way, I’m totally converted to Addi circular needles. My mother owns the interchangeable set and although she thinks the set is a brilliant idea, she complains that the joints sometimes don’t work properly. I’m buying my needles as I need them, one at a time.

Oliver + S Reversible Bucket Hat
Uma das coisas que fiz na véspera de ir de férias para Portugal foi um chapéu para o Rodrigo. O modelo vem neste livro mas também está disponível gratuitamente aqui. Estava cheia de sono e acabei por não seguir a construção do chapéu à letra — em vez de deixar uma parte por coser, fiz o direito e o avesso separadamente… mas o problema resolveu-se rapidamente aplicando uma fita de viés. Esta é a medida mais pequena e serve perfeitamente a uma cabeça de 5 meses. E dá para usar de muitas maneiras diferentes:
One of the things I made on the day before I left for Portugal was a hat for Rodrigo. The pattern is from this book but it’s also available for free download here. I was very sleepy while I was sewing it and ended up messing up the construction — instead of leaving a bit unsewn, I made two separate shells… but the problem was quickly fixed by using some bias tape to put them together. This is the smallest size and it fits perfectly a 5-month-old head. And you can use it in all sorts of ways:

Férias :: Summer Holidays
Estou a precisar de doses industriais de sol, mar, peixe, fruta, cinema, amigos e família. Este blog vai de férias e volta em meados de Agosto. Até lá!
